Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce that Matt Carson has signed his first professional contract, keeping him at the club until June 2024.

The 19-year-old Northern Irishman has been at the club throughout the scholarship programme since signing from Glentoran in August 2020.

Carson was part of the Saints side that won the Under-18s Premier League title last season and has made the step up to the B team this campaign.

After enduring a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury, the young defender committed his future to the club in the same week that he returned to training ahead of the final few matches of the season.

Speaking after signing professional terms with the club, Carson said:

"This is something I’ve dreamt of since I started playing football so to finally sign feels good.

“It was an easy decision, the club have been great. The whole way through my injury yet again they’ve helped a lot and they offered me a new deal which gave me a clear head to focus on getting back.”
