Saints face Colchester United for the second game in a row after travelling to the Essex club last weekend and returning with a resounding 5-0 win.

After a cagey first half which saw the U's reduced to 10 men just before the break, Dave Horseman's youngsters came out firing in a "ruthless' second period.

Zuriel Otseh-Taiwo opened the scoring before Jimmy-Jay Morgan scored yet another brace, with Luke Pearce and Sam Amo-Ameyaw completing the five-goal haul.

Saints turned on the style against Colchester last weekend

Colchester provided a tough test for the young Saints last weekend, with a handful of first team fringe players included in their squad.

They had arguably the better opening chances at the Colchester Community Stadium, but were undone by the clinical finishing in the second half.

THE GROUP

With three wins from three, Saints top Group F with a perfect record after reaching the halfway stage of their group games.

Colchester are second in the group having played two games with one win and one defeat.

In the other fixture last weekend, Everton and Birmingham played out a 1-1 draw as they make up the third and fourth places in the group respectively.

MANAGER'S NOTES

"I thought we showed a really good reaction in the second half [last weekend]." said Horseman, ahead of the reverse fixture against Colchester.

"The win was good but at this age it's about the performance and we can do better than that.

"It will be really interesting for the fans to come down as we may be missing a few players with our Under-18s playing in the FA Youth Cup on Saturday so it gives the rest of the lads a chance to show what they can do.

"We're looking forward to playing at St Mary's, [Colchester] showed they're an excellent team who caused us problems so I think it will lead to a really exciting game."
