Loan Watch: Saints on-loan players in knockout action

Several of Southampton’s lower-league loanees took to the Emirates FA Cup and Papa Johns Trophy this week. Find out how they fared in this week’s Loan Watch…

Two of Saints B’s on-loan youngsters were remaining in the FA Cup Second Round, as a place in the Third Round of England’s oldest cup competition was on offer.

Will Tizzard’s history-making Chippenham Town side were hoping to pull off another giant killing as they travelled to SkyBet League One side, Burton Albion.

Tizzard played the full 90 minutes, after missing the previous round’s shock win over Lincoln City but, unfortunately, the three-division gap between the sides proved to be too much this time as The Bluebirds bowed out with a 6-1 defeat.

Elsewhere in the FA Cup, Kegs Chauke came off the bench for Exeter City to make his debut in the competition but his side fell to defeat against their fellow League One opponents.

Meanwhile, there were three Saints players in midweek knockout action in the Papa Johns Trophy with similar experiences for Dan Nlundulu, Dynel Simeu, and Caleb Watts.

The trio all featured in 1-1 draws away from home with their matches all going the distance to a penalty shootout.

Nlundulu and Simeu both played 120 minutes as Cheltenham travelled to Forest Green and Tranmere visited Burton Albion respectively, with both sides advancing with a 4-3 shootout victory.

Caleb Watts’ played just under an hour for Morecambe in their trip to Lincoln City, but the Shrimps were beaten 4-3 on penalties.

Finally, Jack Bycroft was in National League South action as he played 90 minutes for Taunton Town in a 1-1 away draw against Hemel Hempstead Town.

The draw sees the Peacocks move up to 16th place with multiple games in hand on teams above them, as Bycroft helped stretch his side’s unbeaten league form to three games.
