Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl has confirmed defender Jan Bednarek will miss Saturday's meeting with Brighton with a calf injury.

The Poland international left the field after 84 minutes during Wednesday night's draw with Leicester City with an injury that will mean he misses Saturday's second St Mary's billing.

Bednarek joins midfielder Stuart Armstrong who remains an absentee. Goalkeeper Fraser Forster is also a doubt after an injury meant he couldn't train towards the end of this week.

In terms of returning personnel centre-back Jack Stephens continues to build fitness ahead of a return from a two-month knee injury he picked up at Manchester City earlier in the season.
