Southampton striker Ché Adams picked out the positives from his side’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City at St Mary’s on Wednesday night.

The Scotland international scored his sixth goal in eight games for club and country during the first half, helping Saints to go ahead again after Jonny Evans cancelled out Jan Bednarek’s early opener.

Despite the confident diving header from Adams it wasn’t to be the winner, James Maddison notching Leicester’s second equaliser of the night early into the second half.

Although Saints lost their lead on two occasions the 25-year-old was keen to point out the many plus points after the game.

“It’s an important point,” said the striker, “especially in this busy schedule we’ve got going on.

We kept in it and could've nicked it at the end.

“It definitely gave us confidence [the early goal]. The way we pressed in the first half was great, it managed to help the defenders out and the team out.

“It was a great ball [from Redmond for his goal] in. I’ve kind of gambled, I was half unsure on what to do but I just stuck my head at it and it went in. It was a great ball in and I’m happy to get on the scoresheet.

“It’s always going to be tough, Leicester are a good team. They got the goal and it wasn’t a nice goal to give away, a soft goal. But we kept in it and could’ve knicked it at the end.

“But overall I thought it was a well-fought point.”
