Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse has become the first midfielder to play every minute of consecutive Premier League campaigns.

Named Fans’ Player of the Season for 2020/21, the Saints captain completed the full 90 minutes against West Ham at the weekend to achieve the milestone.

Completing the last 77 Premier League games and starting the last 89 matches in all competitions – substituted once due to injury – Ward-Prowse last started a league game amongst the substitutes in May 2019, coincidentally also against West Ham at the end of the 2018/19 season.

Wearing the captain’s armband for the first full season, he enjoyed his most prolific campaign in front of goal, registering nine goals and providing a further seven assists.
