Ralph Hasenhüttl is targeting his first points against West Ham when the Hammers visit St Mary’s on Tuesday evening.
The boss has overseen four meetings with the London club so far in his Southampton tenure, and is only too aware that all four have ended in defeat.
Speaking after Boxing Day’s goalless draw at Fulham, Hasenhüttl will be keeping a close eye on how his players recover with such a short turnaround between games.
“We have never won against them so far and never taken points, so we have to do it better than we have in the past,” he said.
“We have to be concentrated for this tough game, find the right players to choose and hopefully we can cause them some issues.
“To the Liverpool game we have a little bit longer to recover, but this game comes quickly.
“Today (against Fulham) I think it was not so intense, because the net game time was not so high.
“It’s a small pitch, there were a lot of fouls and a lot of interceptions. We must have a look at who is fit.”
