WHAT’S AT STAKE?
Two sides in good form will come face-to-face at St Mary’s, with Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side looking to extend their unbeaten run to four whilst Everton will aim to remain top of the pile.
The Merseyside outfit are yet to taste defeat in 2020/21, with four wins and a draw from their opening five fixtures, raising expectations around Goodison Park.
Sunday’s meeting will also see two England strikers go head-to-head, with Danny Ings and Dominic Calvert-Lewin looking to once again be the difference makers for their respective sides.
TEAM NEWS
With Theo Walcott ineligible to play against his parent club, Ralph Hasenhüttl could immediately reintroduce Stuart Armstrong who has rejoined first team training following a period in self-isolation after a positive COVID-19 test.
However, Moussa Djenepo (hamstring) and Will Smallbone (quad) will sit out Sunday, with summer signing Mohammed Salisu continuing to train with the first team before making his Saints debut.
For Everton, they’ve been dealt two blows as a result of a tempestuous Merseyside derby last weekend, with Seamus Coleman limping off injured and Richarlison shown a straight red card - both of which will miss the trip south.
Talisman James Rodríguez also picked up a knock, but could still feature at St Mary's.
THE MANAGERS
Ralph Hasenhüttl: ""It will be an interesting game, I think. An intense game against a strong side. For us, it is another chance to show up and show that we can also be a competitive opponent against this strong side and this is the goal for the weekend.
"We want to be this strong opponent that we expect to be, and we will need a really good performance."
Carlo Ancelotti: "They [Southampton] are trying to play without the ball with high intensity, they are really compact. We have to be smart, we have to be clever with the ball. If we are, we could have chances to win the game.
"It's really tough, they played really well against Chelsea. To win, you have to be at 100%, I would like to be 100% because our target is to try to win."
ONES TO WATCH
Ché Adams: Getting the goal last weekend that his early performances have deserved, Adams will now hope to go on a scoring run similar to that at the end of last season, where he scored four goals in six matches.
The striker has forged a formidable partnership with Danny Ings, becoming a selfless cog in the Saints machine by providing two assists to the England international so far.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin: The imposing striker has been the stand-out performer in the Premier League so far, scoring in every match to date and playing a pivotal role in Everton's impressive start to 2020/21.
Already boasting 10 goals in all competitions, the 23-year-old also netted on his England debut, becoming the first Everton player to do so in 17 years.
