The September set of internationals ended on Monday night, with six Saints players representing their countries.

James Ward-Prowse made his very first England start against Iceland on Friday night, with Gareth Southgate’s side going on to win 1-0 in the Nations League.

Danny Ings came on with 22 minutes to go to receive his first cap in five years, following a more than impressive Premier League campaign.

Both players were unused substitutes during England’s second game of the international break, a 0-0 draw with Denmark on Tuesday.

Saints’ Jannik Vestergaard was also amongst the substitutes for that fixture, having also made the bench for their 2-0 defeat to Belgium on Saturday.

Elsewhere Stuart Armstrong helped Scotland top their Nations League group with a 2-1 win over Czech Republic on Monday night.

Saints’ midfielder played 80 minutes as goals from Lyndon Dykes and Ryan Christie secured the result for the tartan army over a resilient Czech side.

Also featuring on Monday was Jan Bednarek, who played the full 90 minutes as Poland came from behind to beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-1.

The defender also played the duration of Poland’s 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands on Friday, as Armstrong featured for the final 12 minutes of Scotland’s 1-1 draw with Israel at Hampden Park on the same night.

Finally Shane Long was an unused substitute during Ireland’s 1-0 defeat to Finland on Sunday but played the final ten minutes of their 1-1 draw with Bulgaria on Thursday.

The set of results mean Ireland sit third in League 3 Group 4, two points behind second placed Finland at this early stage.
