Club partners take action during Covid-19 outbreak

With many people facing difficult times, Southampton Football Club is proud to be working with partners who are helping to make a difference.

As well as the work we’ve been doing as part of our own Saints As One campaign, here are some of the ways our partners have been supporting the community.

Working alongside the telecommunications industry and the government, Virgin Media has been supporting the NHS and other businesses providing critical services. Part of this has included providing additional bandwidth and availability for NHS Trusts and the police, as well as supporting connectivity at NHS Nightingale hospitals across the country.

Virgin Media has also implemented a range of initiatives to help customers at home, as well as signing-up for Ofcom’s Stay Connected campaign alongside the UK’s main broadband and mobile providers, sharing advice on how to stay connected.

Existing Virgin Media customers can now access more than 50 popular kids, entertainment and Sky channel programmes, with mobile customers receiving an additional 10GB of mobile data too. Plus, Virgin Media customers on its Talk Protected plan now have unlimited free calls to UK landlines and mobiles so that elderly and those that are most vulnerable can keep in touch with loved ones during the lockdown.

Under Armour has also been helping frontline staff, applying their expertise in product innovation to help keep healthcare workers protected against the coronavirus pandemic, developing and manufacturing PPE that has been distributed to hospitals.

They’ve also worked with brand ambassadors Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jade Jones to donate 4,000 products to NHS Trusts in Liverpool and Manchester, as part of a wider donation of performance sports apparel to healthcare workers in the UK and across Europe.

Another partner to donate product to frontline staff is Wow Hydrate, having teamed up with heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury to donate tens of thousands of electrolyte water drinks to NHS workers across London.

Southampton-based energy provider Utilita has been making a difference in the local area, making a charitable donation to Solent Mind to help those with mental health issues during the Covid-19 pandemic. Staff at Utilita have also been volunteering to help maintain Mayfield Nurseries, a social enterprise that supports Solent Mind.

To help people cope with the effects of lockdown, Solent University’s Senior Lecturer in public health Chris Dunn has shared ‘Five ways to wellbeing’, a series of tips to improve your health. You can watch the video here.

Southampton Football Club’s Chief Commercial Officer, David Thomas, said: “We are proud that our family of partners are taking positive action during this difficult time for everyone.

"The initiatives our partners have carried out align with our own Saints As One campaign, as we all work to support those in our communities that need our help."
