With 10 games to go in the Premier League season, get up to speed with the latest developments across all levels of Southampton Football Club in our latest Monday Briefing…

Saints beaten at West Ham

The London Stadium remained an unhappy hunting ground for Saints, as hosts West Ham ran out 3-1 winners in the capital.

Michael Obafemi cancelled out Jarrod Bowen’s opener, but the Hammers restored their lead through Sébastien Haller before Michail Antonio struck the killer third in the second half.

Saints drop one place to 13th in the Premier League table, seven points clear of danger.

Newcastle visit St Mary’s

Next up, Saints will host Newcastle on Saturday in a 3pm GMT kick-off at St Mary’s.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men have a two-point lead over the Magpies, who were held to a goalless draw at home by Burnley at the weekend.

Tickets for the game are on general sale to all supporters.

Under-23s in action tonight

Saints Under-23s return to Premier League 2 action at home to Leicester this evening.

Dave Horseman’s side fell to a 4-1 defeat last time out at Stoke, with January signing Jacob Maddox getting off the mark for his new club.

Kick-off at Staplewood against the Foxes is at 7pm GMT.

Women hit seven without reply

Southampton FC Women bounced back from their National League Cup semi-final defeat at Sunderland with a comprehensive 7-0 victory over Maidenhead.

Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side strengthened their position at the top of the league with six second-half goals at Staplewood.

Alisha Ware struck a hat-trick and Shannon Albuery scored twice, with Shannon Sievwright and Georgie Freeland completing the rout.

McMenemy becomes Club Ambassador

Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce that Lawrie McMenemy has been named as an official Club Ambassador.

A managerial legend at Saints, McMenemy led the team to the 1976 FA Cup trophy as a Second Division side, famously beating Manchester United 1-0 in the final, thanks to a goal from the late Bobby Stokes.

His achievements extended well beyond that iconic piece of silverware, though, as he oversaw promotion back into the top-flight shortly afterwards and then took Southampton to within three points of winning the league title in 1983/84, as they finished a narrow second to Liverpool.

Foundation Charity Dinner raises over £95,000

Saints Foundation last week celebrated an incredible evening after their Charity Dinner raised a staggering £95,767 for good causes in and around the Southampton area.

More than 400 people joined together at St Mary’s Stadium in support of the charity, including manager Ralph Hasenhüttl and captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, as well as Danny Ings and official Saints Foundation Ambassador James Ward-Prowse.

Alongside them were other members of the coaching staff and some of Southampton’s most influential people – all in attendance to see how Saints Foundation is transforming lives in its local community.

Young Southampton forward Tyreke Johnson has joined USL Championship side Hartford Athletic on loan for their upcoming league campaign, which runs from March to December.

Hartford, based in Connecticut, are managed by former Under-23s boss Radhi Jaïdi, and the 20-year-old will now link up with his old coach on the US east coast.

Johnson was handed his Southampton debut under Ralph Hasenhüttl in 2018/19, making one appearance in the Premier League and a further two in the FA Cup.
