Despite adding to his personal goal tally, young striker Michael Obafemi was left frustrated with the final result in London, as Southampton fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of West Ham United.

Obafemi levelled proceedings midway through the first period, cancelling out Jarrod Bowen's opener, but Saints succumbed to two second-half strikes, meaning they left the capital empty handed.

Ralph Hasenhüttl's side return to St Mary's Stadium next weekend, hosting Newcastle, with the forward convinced Saints will have put today's disappointment firmly behind them.

"Very disappointed," the teenager reflected. "We're disappointed with the way it went. We have to go again in a week's time against Newcastle.

"The long balls to Antonio were tough to deal with and tomorrow we'll have to look back at the game, what we did wrong, and work on putting it right.

"I was happy to get the goal but in the end it doesn't mean much. We lost the game. We've got to rebuild and be positive.

"It would have been a different game going into half-time at 1-1.

"We look forward to every game we play. Especially when it's at home. Today makes the three points even more important next week."
