Substitute Callum Watts was the hero as Southampton’s youngsters left it late to secure an impressive away victory over their Arsenal counterparts in the Under-18 Premier League.

Watts dispatched Seamus Keogh’s square pass to wrap up the points in the 90th minute at the Shenley Training Centre.

Saints were good value for the victory, having created the better of the chances, starting with Lucas Defise testing Arsenal keeper Hubert Graczyk early on.

Ramello Mitchell then rounded Graczyk and looked set to open the scoring, only for a covering defender to block his shot on the line.

The Gunners were more of an attacking force after the interval, striking the post 13 minutes from time as they sensed victory.

But instead it was Paul Hardyman’s side who took the points. After Marcos Rus shot straight at Graczyk three minutes from time, the game seemed destined set to finish goalless, but there was still time for one last chance.

When Caleb Watts crossed to the far post, skipper Keogh kept the ball alive and Callum Watts was there, in the right place at the right time ten minutes after coming on, to convert the winner.
