Southampton youngster Alfie Jones starred for loan club St Mirren as the Buddies inflicted a significant defeat on high-flying Hearts in the SPL.
Hearts were top of the table at the start of November, but two goals from Adam Hammill condemned the Jambos to a third successive league defeat.
The win boosts St Mirren’s survival hopes, as Jones performed impressively to keep the Edinburgh side at bay.
On the continent, Guido Carrillo played his part as Mauricio Pellegrino’s Leganés pulled off a similar result, climbing out of the relegation zone by beating Alavés, who are in touch with the La Liga leaders.
Carrillo completed the full 90 minutes as Alavés missed the chance to go joint top with a 1-0 defeat in Spain.
Elsewhere, Jordy Clasie provided the assist for Jens Toornstra to score the only goal as Feyenoord edged past Groningen in the Eredivisie, but the Rotterdam club remain a distant third in the table behind PSV and Ajax.
It was a less successful day for Saints’ EFL representatives, as Harrison Reed’s Blackburn were well beaten by Lancashire neighbours Preston, 4-1 at Deepdale.
Jake Hesketh was also on the receiving end of a heavy defeat, as Burton lost 3-0 at Blackpool in League One, but Josh Sims came off the bench to help Reading pick up an important point in a goalless draw at Wigan that keeps the Royals above the Championship drop zone.
