Southampton manager Mark Hughes has been buoyed by another sold-out away crowd heading to back his team on the road this weekend.

Saints head to Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday, with 3,000 of their own supporters also making the journey to Molineux.

Ahead of the game, Hughes reiterated just how important that following is to the side.

“The away support is magnificent,” he said. “I’ve said it many, many times and you can't underestimate the effect it has on us as a group as well.

“We sense it, we sense that everyone's behind us and we try and give them good performances first and foremost and as a consequence of that hopefully we get good results as well, but I think our away support clearly appreciates when the guys have put everything in and they can see that we're trying to do the right things even if we at times come unstuck like we did at the weekend.

“We've got a good group working hard, trying to win games for the fans.”

Hughes is certainly experience already at taking Saints on the road, even though he only took over in March of this year.

Saturday’s game will mark his 18th in charge of the side, and will be the 12th away match in the time.

they're a good side, but we won't be going there with any fear or trepidation.

"For the most part it feels we've always been on the road,” he said. “After the Everton game [in the Carabao Cup next Tuesday] I think it will be 19 games since I've come here, and 13 of them have been away from home, so it's been a challenge for everybody.

“But sometimes as an away team you can lull the home side into a false sense of security and that's when you're at your most dangerous and you can cause situations and create chances against them, so we'll give them the respect they deserve, because they're a good side, but we won't be going there with any fear or trepidation.

“We're a good team ourselves and I expect us to show that.”
