Long ruled out of Ireland squad

Southampton striker Shane Long has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland squad for this week's internationals.

The forward picked up a knock in Saturday's 2-0 win at Crystal Palace and will remain at Staplewood over the break as a precaution.

Republic of Ireland face Wales in the UEFA Nations League and Poland in a friendly during the coming week.

International results weren't with the Saints on their respective campaigns.
