Cédric will have the chance to become the first Saints player to confirm his place in the last 16 as Portugal face Iran on Monday night in Saransk.

A draw with Spain and victory over Morocco last time out has put the Portuguese within touching distance of the knockout stages and anything but a defeat at the hands of Carlos Quieroz’s side will send them through alongside the Spanish.

Cédric has played for the full 180 minutes of his team’s adventure in Russia so far and a pair of solid performances should ensure the wing-back features once more for the European Champions tonight.

Their opponents Iran were left rueing their luck despite withstanding long spells of pressure in a 1-0 loss to Spain last week; a win against Portugal would set up a historic qualification for the last 16.
