Mark Hughes has called on all involved with the club to carry the positivity of Saturday’s crucial 2-1 win over Bournemouth into the final two weeks of the season, beginning with the upcoming trip to Everton.

Saints face the Toffees on Saturday before a crunch clash with rivals Swansea the following Tuesday with renewed optimism on the back of a Dušan Tadić-inspired victory against the Cherries and Hughes wants to see that momentum sustained on Merseyside.

“(Bournemouth) was just one result and the first part of a difficult sequence of games that we probably have to win.

“If we can get a result at Everton - which is never an easy place to go - then that means we can be in a position to affect the sides around us by winning against Swansea.

“That’s clearly the situation we want to find ourselves in and we’ll see where it takes us.”

As was proven at an electric St Mary’s last weekend, the connection between Saints players and supporters will be key to getting over the line in the next fortnight.

“We’re going to need everybody’s help. There’s a positivity around the club now on the back of what has been a very difficult season so far, we all know that.

“Now is not the time for any negativity, we’ve just got to get behind the guys and get us over the line.”
