Steven Davis says Southampton must dust themselves down and go again after defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

Saints have no time to dwell on the defeat, as they now turn their focus to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, before facing Everton just 48 hours later.

Davis, who started in the game against Spurs on Wednesday night, admits Saints didn’t deserve anything from the game, but says there are positive to take moving forward.

“It’s obviously a good position to be in the fact that we have a game so soon after,” Davis told southamptonfc.com.

“Of course we have huge disappointment and frustration that we didn’t get anything from the game, but I don’t think we deserved to.

“I think Tottenham were the better side, so we just have to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves down to get ready to go again.

“I think we made a really good start in the game. We had a good intensity, pressing high up the pitch and we got our reward with a goal so early on.

“But we were a little bit disappointed with the manner in which we conceded the equaliser and that changed the outlook on the game for both sides.”

Saints had to battle for much of the second half with ten men, after Nathan Redmond had been sent off, and while not ideal during such a busy period, Davis wants Saints to learn lessons quickly from the defeat.

“At 2-1 down and then going down to ten men it was always going to be very difficult to get back in the game with the quality that they’ve got,” the Northern Ireland captain added.

“But I think overall the scoreline was a little bit harsh on us. There are lessons to be learned from the game, and hopefully we can improve moving forward.”
