Southampton Under-18s suffered a 6-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in their latest Under-18 Premier League encounter.

Saints entered the break 4-0 down at Staplewood Campus but fought back through Harlem Hale and Will Smallbone early on in the second half.

However, the visitors netted twice more in the final half an hour of the match to secure victory.

Samuel Shashoua put Spurs 2-0 up within the first 20 minutes. He bounced his first effort in off of Adam Parkes’ right post before then confidently slotting home a penalty to double his tally.

Jack Roles then followed suit for the visitors, as the midfielder secured a brace within 13 minutes.

He was first to react in the penalty area and rifled in from close range for his first before then sidestepping Parkes after a smart pass from Oliver Skipp to tuck in his second.

Despite the score line, Saints came out looking reenergised after the break and they soon pulled two back.

Relentless hounding from Michael Obafemi and Hale forced a mistake across the Spurs backline, and the latter chipped past Jonathan De Bie in the Tottenham goal.

The Saints pair were then involved in the second as Hale broke down the right flank and teed up Obafemi. De Bie did well to deny the striker's effort, but Smallbone was on hand to hammer home the rebound from the edge of the area and make it 4-2.

With Saints pressing for a third at one end, Spurs soon added to their tally at the other. Shashoua cut a fine ball back to Roles on the edge of the penalty area who completed his hat-trick with a fierce strike into Parkes’ top left corner.

The scoring was then complete on the 76th minute as substitute Kazaiah Sterling slotted in from close range after a neat pass from Roles to round-off victory for the visitors.
