Ward-Prowse: We needed to be more clinical

By SFC Media time Thu 20 Oct Inter vs Saints

James Ward-Prowse admitted Southampton’s lack of clinical edge cost them dearly against Internazionale at the San Siro.

Saints dominated against their Italian counterparts, but were unable to get themselves ahead, despite creating a number of good chances in the first 45 minutes.

Antonio Candreva’s 67th-minute goal then gave Inter the lead, and despite further opportunities late on, Claude Puel’s men left the San Siro empty handed.

Speaking about the defeat, Ward-Prowse said: “The general feeling is that we all feel a little bit hard done by.

“We had a few good chances, especially in the first half and then a couple late on. We needed to be more clinical and put those chances away.

“Against good teams and in the Europa League we’re going to find it tough if we don’t. We need to be taking the chances.

“I was a bit disappointed in the first half with the one I had, but as a team we had to be more clinical. Maybe we needed a little bit of luck in front of goal.”
