Claude Puel admitted that Southampton's 1-0 defeat away to Inter was extremely difficult to take, after seeing his team dominate at the San Siro.
Saints fell to Antonio Candreva's 67th-minute strike, but their display merited at least a point, and arguably even more.
The visitors went close on a number of occasions, but couldn't ever quite make the breakthrough, and Puel explained how difficult it was to take.
"I think we saw a very good game from my team, with quality, with a good physical level and with fresh players," he said.
"We dominated all the game and missed many chances. It was just one situation against us. It is very hard to lose this game."
Puel added that there was still plenty to be proud of, however.
"I enjoyed the work of my players, because they played a fantastic first half, with quality and control of the game and many chances, without getting the goal," he said.
"It is hard to accept the result of this game, with all the good things we did on the pitch. But it's football and it's important to learn to be clinical."
