U18 Preview: Southampton vs West Ham

By SFC Media time Fri 26 Aug Saints U18 vs West Ham U18

Craig Fleming wants more of the same from Southampton Under-18s, as they look to follow up their impressive win over Chelsea when they host West Ham tomorrow.

The young Saints side beat the Blues 3-2 last weekend, and they will now turn their attention to the Hammers, who will arrive at Staplewood in excellent form themselves, with the game set to kick-off at 11am BST.

"It's to keep it going," said Fleming of the message to his players this week. "We spoke about it in the debrief, that they've got to realise now that when they do the bits that we've worked on in training they get the performances, and they can't go away from that.

"It's really pleasing for them, because they were desperate to get a result on the board, and to do it against Chelsea, who have been so dominant these last few years, was fantastic.

"They've also seen that if they do it, as a team they're going to get some good performances and results, and individually they're going to move up into Martin's squad, which has happened this last week."

Fleming was referring to the Southampton Under-23s side, which beat Manchester United on Monday night, at St Mary's.

"When you look at the team, there was Yan [Valery] at right-back and Tom O'Connor in midfield. Ty (Tyreke Johnson) did well, Siph [Mdlalose] came off the bench, and it was really pleasing for the boys," he said.

On the threat of West Ham, Fleming added: "It will be another tough game. They've won both games, I don't think they've conceded a goal yet, they look a strong team, so it will be another good test for us, and we'll go into it confident after the last result."
