Nathan Redmond says he’s been inspired by what he has seen at Southampton so far and is targeting further progress with the club.

Speaking to Saturday’s edition of SAINTS matchday magazine, where Redmond discusses his upbringing in football and what he hopes to achieve with Southampton, the England Under-21 international believes that his new club is the perfect place to harness his development.

“It’s one of the reasons why I signed here when the gaffer actually wasn’t here. It’s the ethos and the willingness to improve,” he explains.

“Whether it’s the chef Tom or the secretaries at the club, everyone wants to get better and improve. I want development and growth both on the pitch and off it as a person and as a player.”

Redmond has been particularly impressed with his new surroundings of the Staplewood Campus, which he’s taking as motivation to build on his encouraging start to life on the south coast which included an opening day goal in the 1-1 draw with against Watford.

“Just when you’re walking down through the changing rooms at the training ground you see all the great players that have played here,” he details.

“From Alan Ball to Alan Shearer and Matt Le Tissier, who have also got OBEs and MBEs which means they’re just fantastic figure heads and legends that have played at this football club.

“To score on my debut was one thing and hopefully I can carry it on to set a marker for myself and hit my own targets, which is something else I want to try and do this season.

“I feel like I’ve settled in well and that I fit what Southampton is all about and hopefully I will continue to grow here to become a role model at the club.”
