Three Southampton stars have made it through to the quarter-finals of UEFA EURO 2016 with their respective nations.

José Fonte and Cédric were celebrating on Saturday night, as they made their first appearances of the tournament to help Portugal into the last eight.

The duo were superb at the back against Croatia, with substitute Ricardo Quaresma scoring the only goal of the game in extra time.

Portugal will take on Poland in the first quarter-final on Thursday night, with a place against Belgium or Wales in the last four up for grabs.

Striker Graziano Pellè will also join Fonte and Cédric in the last eight of the competition, after helping Italy to a thrilling win over Spain.

Pellè's injury-time goal made it 2-0 to the Italians, who had taken the lead just after the 30-minute mark through defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Italy will take on world champions Germany in the last eight of the competition, knowing Portugal or Iceland await in the semi-finals.

Elsewhere, Steven Davis's memorable campaign with Northern Ireland came to an end after a 1-0 defeat to Wales, while Shane Long and Republic of Ireland suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to hosts France.

Ryan Bertrand and Fraser Forster were unused substitutes as England crashed out, losing 2-1 to Iceland.
