McCarthy joins Walsall on loan

Southampton Football Club can confirm defender Jason McCarthy has joined Walsall on loan until 1st January.

The 20 year-old will link up with the Saddlers ahead of their 2016/17 Sky Bet League 1 campaign, which gets under way against AFC Wimbledon in August.

McCarthy spent much of the 2015/16 season on loan at Wycombe Wanderers in League 2. He made 39 appearances in all competitions over the course of the campaign and was named as the club’s Player of the Season.

Last season, Walsall just missed out on promotion to the Championship, losing to eventual winners Barnsley in the League 1 play-off semi-finals.

The young Saints defender will now hope to impress at League 1 level, following his successful spell with the Chairboys last season.
