Redmond: Saints seemed like the perfect fit

Nathan Redmond says his knew Southampton was the right fit for him as soon as he heard of the club’s interest.

After three seasons with Norwich City, Redmond completed his move to Saints on Saturday, signing a five-year contract at St Mary’s.

The winger, an England Under-21 international who won the Toulon Tournament in the summer, believes moving to the south coast is the perfect next step for him.

“It feels really good. It’s another chance in the Premier League at a fantastic club with great facilities that can really help develop my game,” Redmond told

“Their style of play, having played against them a couple of times during my career, is an attacking one. It’s something I feel I can fit well into.

“It just felt right when Southampton called and said they were interested. Having had a look around the training ground, it feels like a place where I can learn and develop as a player.

“I’m always looking to learn and develop as a player and I’ll be looking to improve on any weaknesses I can. The training ground here feels like a fantastic place to do that.”

Redmond has shown his qualities in the Premier League during his three-year stay with Norwich, but is now looking to kick on again after arriving at St Mary’s.

“I’ve had two seasons in the Premier League before with Norwich and three or four in the Championship. I’ve got experience in terms of games and playing time,” he added.

“But as I’ve said, this is the next step and it’s important I look to kick on even more. It feels like the right place for me to do that, and I can’t wait.

“I’ve played against Southampton in the past. It’s a fantastic club that’s only getting better and better. I need to progress too. It’s great to be a part of it.”
