Saints trio win Toulon Tournament with England U21s

By SFC Media time Sun 29 May Club

Southampton trio Jack Stephens, Matt Targett and James Ward-Prowse all featured as England Under-21s won the Toulon Tournament 2016.

After four wins from four games in the group stages, Gareth Southgate’s side took on France in the final of the competition, and won 2-1.

Ward-Prowse captained England and played the full 80 minutes, while Targett was replaced by club teammate Stephens in the closing moments.

Chelsea’s Lewis Baker headed home from Ward-Prowse’s pass to give England the lead in the first half, before Ruben Loftus-Cheek doubled their advantage.

Abdou Diallo pulled a goal back for France with two minutes remaining, but England held on to win the Toulon Tournament for the first time since 1994.
