Southampton came from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 and equal their record Barclays Premier League points tally.
Having beaten Manchester City last weekend, Spurs remained the only side Ronald Koeman was yet to beat as Saints boss since his arrival in the summer of 2014.
But that hoodoo came to an end at the fourth attempt, as a Steven Davis double saw Koeman’s men come from behind to beat Spurs at White Hart Lane.
Heung-Min Son opened the scoring with just 16 minutes gone, but Saints responded superbly and equalised just after the half-hour mark as Davis netted his first of the afternoon.
His second arrived with 20 minutes remaining, and proved to be the difference, as Saints extended their unbeaten run to five games.
After the excellent win against Manchester City a week previous, it was little surprise that Koeman opted to name the same starting line-up at White Hart Lane. The only change to the matchday squad came on the bench, as Graziano Pellè replaced Jay Rodriguez.
The first real chance of the game came with just five minutes on the clock, as Danny Rose got in behind Cuco Martina and crossed for Christian Eriksen, who was denied by an excellent save from Fraser Forster.
But shortly after Saints had gone close, when Dušan Tadić’s ball across the box was too strong for an unmarked Steven Davis, the hosts took the lead.
Erik Lamela played the ball through for Son, who was able to beat Forster to the ball before tapping the ball home from close range after skipping away from a couple of challenges.
Saints were providing plenty of attacking threat however, and it was from another left-wing cross in which they went desperately close to equalising. Ryan Bertrand’s ball in caused problems, but Danny Rose was on hand at the back post to stop Davis from tapping home.
The equaliser soon arrived. Tadić – fresh off the back of three assists against Manchester City – was again the architect, as his ball in found Davis, who squeezed the ball beyond Hugo Lloris for his first goal since November.
The visitors certainly deserved to be level at the break, but they so nearly fell behind with the last attack of the half. Kane was able to shrug off the challenge of José Fonte, but he was superbly denied by Forster as the England striker seemed destined to score.
Spurs began the second half on the front foot, but it was Koeman’s men who created the first real opportunity. Tadić’s cross found Shane Long in the penalty area, but the striker’s header drifted just wide of the target.
Davis – who hadn’t found the net since the 2-0 home win over AFC Bournemouth – was the man who put Saints ahead for the first time in the game, shortly after an enforced water break for both sides.
The Northern Ireland captain played a neat one-two on the edge of the box, before placing the ball into the bottom corner to send Saints’ away following wild.
As Spurs pressed for an equaliser, Saints could've made the win more comfortable, as Long volleyed over from substitute Pellè's neat flick and James Ward-Prowse fired narrowly wide.
But Davis's double proved to be enough, as Saints equalled their record points tally of last season with a game still to play, and in the process keeping alive hopes of qualifying for next season's Europa League.
