Get the lowdown ahead of Southampton's Barclays Premier League clash with Manchester City at St Mary's

Southampton host Manchester City at St Mary’s this Sunday, with both teams looking for a result to boost their European bids.

City, who are currently third in the table, are looking to cement a Champions League spot for next season, while eighth-placed Saints are battling to remain in Europa League contention.

Ronald Koeman’s side have not had much luck against Manuel Pellegrini’s team, losing all three meetings over the course of the last two seasons.

However, they will hope that the distraction of City’s Champions League semi-final will play into their hands.

Pellegrini’s men are currently in between the two legs of their tie with Real Madrid, having drawn 0-0 at Etihad Stadium in midweek, ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Spain.

Earlier in the season, Saints lost 3-1 at City, with Shane Long scoring the only goal of the game for the visitors.

Ronald Koeman has a fully-fit squad to choose from for the clash with City. Charlie Austin missed last week’s 4-2 win at Aston Villa with a slight knee problem, but has been in full training this week and is available.

The situation is not so rosy for Manuel Pellegrini, who is without key men David Silva and Yaya Touré through injury.

In a squad full of talent, it is arguably last summer’s big-money signing, Kevin De Bruyne, who has shone the brightest.

Former Chelsea player De Bruyne arrived from Wolfsburg for a reported fee of £55m and has been in sensational form all season, with 15 goals and nine assists for City.

De Bruyne missed all of February and March with a knee injury, with his absence coinciding with some stuttering form from Manuel Pellegrini’s team, but they are unbeaten since his return in early April.

Ronald Koeman’s side have won six of their last eight games at St Mary’s, and have lost only one of those.

Manchester City have claimed victory in each of the last four meetings between the teams.

Southampton have only won one of the last ten meetings against City in all competitions.

Sergio Agüero has scored in five successive Premier League matches, but has never made it six in a row.

Since Ronald Koeman took over as Southampton manager in the summer of 2014, Manchester City are the only Premier League club he is yet to take a point off.
