Sunday marks the 40th anniversary of Southampton’s 1976 FA Cup triumph – and supporters will have the chance to honour Lawrie McMenemy and his team at St Mary’s.

It was 1st May 1976 when McMenemy’s Second Division side shocked overwhelming favourites Manchester United to win the famous trophy, at Wembley, and their incredible achievement will be commemorated ahead of tomorrow’s Barclays Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Members of the squad, along with McMenemy, who are due to arrive outside the stadium at about 3.45pm on the original open-top bus they paraded the trophy in 40 years ago, will be presented to the crowd at about 4pm, before being interviewed alongside chairman Ralph Krueger and then embarking on a lap of appreciation around the pitch.

Supporters wishing to see the squad are encouraged to be in their seats in good time, as the club honours the achievement of McMenemy and his players.

You can also watch our special feature commemorating their incredible triumph, as the surviving members of the squad tell the inside story of how the FA Cup was won, here:
