Newcastle United might be fighting relegation, but Ronald Koeman believes it is equally important that Southampton take the three points when the teams meet on Saturday.
The Magpies arrive at St Mary's 19th in the table and six points adrift of safety, with time very much running out in the season.
Saints are in a far brighter position, in seventh, but their European ambitions mean that victory is also extremely important for them, especially after last Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Leicester City.
"Still we have our possibilities for a high position," Koeman told Southampton's official YouTube channel. "Of course, it wasn't a good result [against Leicester], but the rest of the teams around us in the table did not win and it's still a little bit the same situation, but even more closer to the end of the season, and for that we need three points this Saturday.
"The key message to the players is keep the focus, keep the spirit until the last game of the season, because it's so unpredictable the whole season and if you can get a good run of results then you can finish in a high position."
Koeman also wants to see his team produce a better start this weekend than they did at King Power Stadium.
"It's always important to start on a good way, because then you dominate the game, you have the ball, and it's always easier to play with the ball," he said. "That was our disappointment about our start in the game, because we spoke before the game about the spirit.
"Leicester is a very aggressive team, even more aggressive at home and you need to prepare for that, and that was disappointing that we had such a sloppy start in the game."
