Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has revealed that Shane Long is the team’s only doubt ahead of Sunday’s trip to Leicester City, after sustaining an injury on international duty.
Long came off during Republic of Ireland’s 2-2 draw with Slovakia on Tuesday, having scored his side’s first goal, and is the one concern that Koeman has for the visit to the Premier League leaders.
"Shane Long had a game for Ireland and had a patellar tendon injury and he's doubtful for this Sunday,” Koeman told Southampton’s official YouTube channel. “Still we have one day tomorrow, but we have to wait until Sunday, but the rest of the players came back in good physical shape.”
After having to withdraw from the England squad through injury, left-back Ryan Bertrand has returned to fitness and is available for selection.
"He's fine,” said Koeman. “He had good treatment last weekend and he had some good sessions this week and he is available for the weekend.”
The same is true for forwards Charlie Austin and Jay Rodriguez, who have both been making their way back from injuries.
"The status is that they are part of the squad,” said Koeman. “We had 24 players on the pitch this morning, including four goalkeepers and it's good choices for the manager and difficult choices to make decisions about that, but both players can be available for the weekend.
"It's very important to have all the players available. That means good competition in your squad. You need that, and it's important to have everybody available for the last seven games. It starts on Sunday with a fantastic game, and we are looking forward to it.”
