Ronald Koeman says he will have some difficult decisions to make for the trip to Leicester City with a near fully-fit squad to pick from.
Striker Shane Long is the only doubt for Sunday’s game, with an injury sustained while on international duty with Republic of Ireland, meaning the Saints boss has plenty of options at his disposal for the clash with the Barclays Premier League title favourites.
“It’s all about a team,” Koeman told reporters at his pre-match press conference. “That was also the message to the players.
“Of course players will be disappointed, but it’s part of the job. The most important is the team, and everybody needs to know that.”
While he may have some tough decisions to make, Koeman is pleased that is the case.
“It’s good to have everybody available for the last part of the season," he said. "You don’t get really any more chances if you don’t win from now to two or three weeks. You play now for everything you like to show in Europe.”
Koeman is also pleased to have a Sunday match this week, meaning an extra day of recovery for those players who had international matches over the last week.
“Most of them had really good results and some of them didn’t play the last international game this week, and that’s good,” said Koeman.
“They travelled back and had a Thursday recovering session together and Friday morning everybody was really focused in training.
“I think it’s important to have one day more, then they can recover more normally than when you have only the Friday after you come back.”
