Forster hopes break won't halt Saints' momentum

Fraser Forster hopes the international break won’t stop Southampton in their tracks.

Ronald Koeman’s men haven’t won the first game following an international break on each of the three occasions this season, but Forster is looking to buck that trend at Leicester City on Sunday.

And the goalkeeper believes an extra day to prepare can help Koeman’s men and ensure they’re in the best shape to claim all three points at King Power Stadium.

“I think this time we play on the Sunday, so it gives us an extra day, which can only benefit us,” the England international, who featured against the Netherlands on Tuesday night, told youtube.com/southamptonfc.

“Then it’s important that we switch on and do what we can to come out of Sunday with a positive result.

“We’ve got a lot of internationals, so it’ll be important for people to return and focus straight away.

“It’s going to be a tough game and we need the points as well, but it will be a real test for us.”

Forster will come up against international teammate Jamie Vardy, who netted in England’s games against Germany and the Netherlands, but the goalkeeper says he didn’t speak with the striker before leaving Wembley.

“I didn’t say anything to Jamie, no,” Forster added. “It’s going to be a really tough game at the weekend.

“Leicester are obviously going really well and it’s just a case of preparing as well as we can over the next few days.

“Then we will go there and try to stop them playing the way they have been.”
