Forster and Clasie feature as England lose to Holland

Southampton’s Fraser Forster played the full game as England lost 2-1 to the Netherlands at Wembley on Tuesday night.

Club teammate Jordy Clasie was a late substitute for the Dutch, while Virgil van Dijk was an unused substitute, as the visitors came from behind to win the game.

Forster was tested for the first time in the 16th minute, as he did well to keep out a shot from Stoke City’s Ibrahim Afellay, before he tipped Georginio Wijnaldum’s effort round the post.

England, encouraged by their comeback win against Germany on Saturday, opened the scoring shortly before half time. A neat move from left to right ended with Kyle Walker setting up Jamie Vardy, who tapped home.

Moments after Forster had saved brilliantly from Vincent Janssen early in the second half, the Dutch were awarded a penalty as the referee adjudged Danny Rose to have handled a cross from Luciano Narsingh.

On this occasion, Janssen got the better of the Saints stopper to draw Danny Blind’s side level with 50 minutes on the clock.

With Saints boss Ronald Koeman watching on, it was Holland who grabbed a winning goal. Janssen’s cross found Narsingh unmarked at the back post, and he hammered home.
