Southampton’s confidence has not been dented ahead of the trip to Bournemouth, despite their six-game unbeaten run being ended by Chelsea, says Ronald Koeman.
The Saints boss takes his side to the Vitality Stadium tomorrow night, as they look to bounce back from Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to the Blues and move back into the top six of the Premier League.
Despite the disappointment of the result at the weekend, Koeman does not believe it should knock the players off their stride when they take on the Cherries.
"I think how we played the first half, I think that was on a good way,” Koeman told Southampton’s official YouTube channel. “We made it very difficult for them. Good defending, good organisation. We were dangerous with our forwards and maybe to learn in the second half that we lost a little bit of control in the game.
“Finally it was disappointment about the result, but if you play against Chelsea you know they have so much quality. Ok, it was a disappointment about the 2-1. Maybe with one point you can be happy, but not with the defeat. But there is no time to keep disappointed, because tomorrow we play Bournemouth.
"That's the spirit of the team. We know we have to continue and it's an important one tomorrow.”
With the trip to Bournemouth being followed by a home clash with Sunderland on Saturday, Koeman knows Saints have the chance to quickly erase the memory of the defeat to Chelsea, and he says it is important that they do so.
"Of course, we know the schedule and we know after a defeat you get very fast a new possibility to win and to get that bad feeling away from last Saturday,” he said.
"Every time you come more close to the end of the season and the next two games we play a lot out of our ambition, but I am still positive.”
