LOAN WATCH: Merry Christmas for McCarthy & Isgrove

By SFC Media time Tue 29 Dec FDSC

Jason McCarthy and Lloyd Isgrove fared best of Saints’ out-on-loan youngsters over the Christmas period.

McCarthy enjoyed two wins in the space of three days with Wycombe Wanderers, with the Choirboys winning 2-0 at Luton on Boxing Day before a home victory of the same scoreline over Crawley Town on Monday.

There was initially cause for frustration for Isgrove when he, having not played for Barnsley since 28th November, saw a Boxing Day trip to Bury postponed.

However, the young Welshman was handed a start when Blackpool visited Oakwell on Monday and duly made the most of his opportunity, winning the man-of-the-match award as his side ran out 4-2 winners.

Isgrove had a big hand in the Tykes’ second, running almost half the field before teeing up Sam Winnable to make it 2-1 before being withdrawn 15 minutes from time.

Sam Gallagher continues to work his way back into contention at MK Dons. After a late substitute appearance in their Boxing Day win over Cardiff, he was handed a start against Birmingham yesterday.

However, he could not prevent his side from slipping to their sixth loss in seven away matches, going off moments before Jacques Maghoma scored the game’s only goal.

It was a disappointing Christmas for defender Jordan Turnbull, who suffered back-to-back losses with Swindon Town, who were beaten 3-1 at home by Gillingham on Boxing Day before a 1-0 loss at Burton Albion yesterday.

Jack Stephens was not involved for Middlesbrough as they beat Sheffield Wednesday to stay top of the Sky Bet Championship table.
