Cédric says Saturday’s trip to Chelsea is the sort of game that every player wants to be involved in.

Saints head to Stamford Bridge to take on José Mourinho’s men this weekend looking to build on their wins against MK Dons and Swansea City.

The 24 year-old will come up against his fellow countryman Mourinho for the first time at Stamford Bridge, and it’s an occasion the right-back is looking forward to.

“Everybody knows his qualities, he’s an amazing coach,” Soares told reporters. “It will be a pleasure for me to play against him.

“It will for sure be a great game. For sure, if I play, I will enjoy the game and do the best for my team.

“It’s a big game and every player wants to play those big games because that’s what football is about.

“Big stadiums, big environment – you want to play that high level and Chelsea is one of the best teams, that’s why everybody wants to play. We will do our best to win.”

Cédric has made six Barclays Premier League appearances since his move from Portuguese side Sporting CP in the summer, and he feels as though he’s really starting to find his feet in England.

Saturday’s trip to Stamford Bridge will be his first away game against one of the Premier League’s top four, but the Portugal international says every game in England’s top flight is a special occasion.

“For me it’s the best league in the world, that’s why I came here,” Cédric added.

“I’m really enjoying Southampton. Playing for Southampton is always a big pleasure because of the environment and the fans, I really like it.

“I’ve settled in very good, I’m playing and I’m trying to do my best. There’s lots of intensity, every game is like a final and we need to go with everything in each game.

“You need all your strength if you’re not going to lose and that’s what is exciting about the Premier League,” the right-back continued.

“I’m really enjoying the Premier League and I will try to play every game because every game has amazing stadiums and amazing fans.”
