Maya Yoshida, Sadio Mané and José Fonte were all rested for international friendlies on Tuesday.
All three featured for their countries over the weekend, but were left out of today’s games as their respective managers shuffled their packs.
Yoshida was an unused substitute as Japan beat Uzbekistan 5-1 in a JAL Challenge Cup 2015 friendly at Tokyo’s Ajinomoto Stadium.
There was no place for Mané as new Senegal boss Aliou Cissé named a much-changed line-up for a friendly against French club side Le Havre, with the game ending 2-1 to the international outfit.
Fonte also had the evening off as Portugal played their second game in three days, following up Sunday’s Euro 2016 qualifying win over Serbia with a surprise 2-0 home loss to Cape Verde.
Also missing out on the action was young goalkeeper Cody Cropper, whose wait for a senior international debut goes on after being overlooked for today’s 1-1 draw in Switzerland.
