Long earns Republic of Ireland a point

Shane Long came off the bench to rescue a point for the Republic of Ireland in their UEFA EURO 2016 Group D qualifier against Poland in Dublin.

Long had to wait until the 83rd minute of the game to be introduced by manager Martin O'Neill, but he made his mark, finishing smartly in injury time to earn the hosts a point.

Slawomir Peszko had put Poland ahead in the 26th minute with a well-taken goal, and it looked as though that would be enough to earn the visitors the win.

But Long had the final say, as he carried over his good form at club level in recent weeks onto the international stage.

The striker will now head back to Southampton ahead of Saturday's game against Everton in the Barclays Premier League.
