Mané included for Gunners trip, Koeman confirms

Ronald Koeman says new signing Sadio Mané will be part of his squad for tomorrow night’s Capital One Cup game at Arsenal.

The Senegal international at last linked up with the squad on Friday after work permit issues prevented him from entering the country after completing a deadline-day move from Red Bull Salzburg.

However, Mané has already impressed his new manager enough to earn a place in the squad that will travel to the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night as Saints go in search of a five consecutive victory and a place in the fifth round of the cup.

“He’s looking very good,” Koeman said of the attacker in an interview with today.

“He’s in a good physical shape because he played a lot of games at the beginning of the season and he played two weeks ago with the national team of Senegal.

“Now he has to adapt to our way of playing, but he will be part of the squad for tomorrow.”

Koeman made minimal changes to his team for the second-round win over Millwall last month, and hinted that he is likely to stick with that approach despite the quick turnaround from last weekend’s victory at Swansea City.

Gunners boss Arsène Wenger has traditionally named much-changed sides in this competition – something that the Saints boss says has not influenced his side’s preparations.

“We’ve prepared ourselves, even though we don’t know what Arsenal’s starting line-up will be,” he said.

“We have to be concentrated and focused game-by-game because the next game is the most important.

“We don’t have time to train seriously because we’re recovering after the match at Swansea, but we did a short session today, and now we have to travel and prepare for tomorrow.

“We’ve had a good start to the season, and now we have to work hard to continue that.

“We’d like to go on in the League Cup, and for that reason we will take it very seriously.”

Koeman confirmed that Maya Yoshida and James Ward-Prowse will both miss the game after picking up ankle injuries on Saturday, but added that he hopes the pair will be fit to face Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

Toby Alderweireld is back in light training after missing the Swansea game with a hamstring complaint, but is also unlikely to return until the weekend.
