Southampton Football Club is pleased to announce that Omar Rowe has penned a one-year extension to his current professional contract.

The Saints winger has been rewarded for an encouraging season in the Development Squad that included nine goals along with a First Team debut in August’s Capital One Cup clash with Barnsley.

A brief cameo in the following round of the competition against Bristol City in September last year was his most recent senior appearance.

Rowe is eager to focus on being a more consistent performer in the future to ensure a return to Southampton’s top squad.

Immediately after putting pen to paper, the 19-year-old told Southampton’s official YouTube channel: “I’m very happy to have signed my second contract with Southampton Football Club. I was pleased to have signed my first and I’m glad to have signed my second.

“The nine goals have helped me to get this contract, although I could have got a bit more. I think next season I can push on.

“I’m very hungry. Last pre-season I started very well and this pre-season I want to start even better and get into the First Team.

“I’m raring to go for the First Team. I just need to be more consistent in what I do and hopefully I’ll get my chance on the pitch.

“Consistency is key. I’ve just got to keep focused and hopefully my chance will come.”

Despite being an influential cog within Martin Hunter’s Under-21 side throughout the campaign, stiff competition saw the winger benched for several of the final few games of 2013/14.

The U21 coach selected Rowe in his starting line-up for the season against Newcastle at St Mary’s – a decision that proved to be a masterstroke as the youngster swept in two goals to give himself a timely confidence boost going into the summer.

Rowe is now hoping such momentum will carry him through another successful pre-season and onto a path to the First Team.

“That boosted my confidence a lot because I didn’t start pretty much,” he said of his strike against the Magpies. “To start the last game and score two goals has done a world of good for me.

“I think it’s helped my confidence to boost me throughout the summer and to work harder for pre-season.

“I want to hit the ground running, get everything over and done with and then try and get into the First Team.”
