Harry hoping for start before season end

Harrison Reed has shared his ambition to be awarded his first Premier League start for Saints before the end of the 2013/14 campaign.

Southampton travel to Swansea this weekend before rounding off an extremely pleasing season with the welcoming of Reed’s boyhood club Manchester United.

The midfielder feels that being named in either of the starting line-ups for those clashes would compliment a breakthrough season in which he made his first appearance in the league against Manchester City last December.

“It would be a great experience for me,” Reed said of a potential starting place when speaking to BBC Radio Solent. “Personally, it’d cap the season off magnificently. I’ve had a bit of game-time here and there and it just makes me want it even more and more.

“Especially with my friends like Calum [Chambers] making 18 starts this season – it makes me want it a lot.

“It was quite scary watching the players come out of the tunnel [against Manchester City] and seeing Yaya Toure on the pitch. But, for me I want to get on in every game; especially to make my debut against Man City – I was itching to get on.

“I supported Manchester United as a child and it’d be a dream come true [to start against them] and it’s one that I’m thinking about.”

Reed was delighted to reveal how positive his current situation within Mauricio Pochettino’s squad is, in an environment that he eased into with help from all members of both playing and coaching staff.

“It’s a great group of players,” the youngster enthused. “They all welcome you in. Every morning you greet each other with a handshake or a high-five and I think that really does help when a younger player comes up to the First Team because it makes you feel welcome and wanted by all the players.

“You just be yourself around this group of players and the manager and the management staff. It’s really nice and relaxed. It’s a great place to be.”
