Youth key to Everton win – Lallana

Adam Lallana says Saints’ youthful exuberance was the key to seeing off Everton yesterday.

The playmaker made his 40th appearance of the season as first-half own-goals from Toffees defenders Antolin Alcaraz and Seamus Coleman secured his side a 2-0 victory.

And Lallana was delighted to end a three-game winless run and equal the Club’s record Premier League points tally of 52 set in 2000/01 and 2002/03.

“We have had a few indifferent results lately so it is nice to get back to winning ways,” he told BT Sport.

“To play in a great, youthful team like this makes me feel like one of the most experienced now.

“We use the youth policy well here at Southampton and we always have, so it’s great when you see more young lads like Clyney (Nathaniel Clyne), [Luke] Shaw, [Calum] Chambers and [James] Ward-Prowse all coming through and doing well.

“The lads were all outstanding. It was going to be a tough game against Everton, so to win 2-0 was a great result.”

With only two games left in the current campaign, Lallana was questioned as to what the future holds for him and the rest of the Club.

And the 25-year-old says he’s looking forward to planning for the new season, but says there’s still work to be done in the final fortnight of the current one.

“I just want to enjoy my football because that is when I am at my happiest – when I am playing well,” explained Lallana.

“I just want to concentrate on the last two games of the season and in the summer we will sit down and see what happens.

”We’ve got top players, a top manager and a top football team, so if we can add in the transfer market and keep progressing we can compete.”
