Maya Yoshida has been called up to the Japan squad to play New Zealand in an upcoming Kirin Challenge Cup friendly.

The clash is due to take place in the National Stadium in Tokyo on Wednesday 5th March – kick-off at 7.40pm GMT.

Yoshida will depart for his country’s capital on Sunday after this weekend’s Premier League clash at home to Liverpool.

He will then join up with the rest of the 23-man squad for the friendly ahead of Japan’s 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign.

The only other warm-up match Japan have before this summer’s competition is a welcoming of Cyprus on Tuesday 27th May.
