All Eyes On Anfield For Rickie

By SFC Media time Wed 28 Nov Club

Rickie Lambert quickly turned his attention to this weekend's trip to his boyhood club Liverpool after netting in tonight's 1-1 draw against Norwich City.

The striker put his side ahead with his sixth of the season, but Robert Snodgrass's leveller on the stroke of half time meant Saints had to settle for a point.

And, with Southampton now unbeaten in their last four games, Lambert immediately turned his focus to his long-awaited trip to Anfield.

"We've got to look forward to Saturday now," he told Saints Player after tonight's game.

"We've gone four unbeaten so we're on a good run at the minute. They (Liverpool) aren't consistent at home so we've got to take belief that we can get something from them.

"I think we played some good stuff in the first half tonight, but we're disappointed with our second half.

"We didn't create the chances we wanted to so I think it was a fair result – we wanted three points today, so we're disappointed.

"Full credit to Norwich because we found it hard to break them down. We weren't as slick as we wanted to be but we have to give Norwich credit.

"But we are playing well at the minute so we are confident going into Saturday's game," he continued.

"There's a good buzz about the place, although there's no getting away from the fact that the lads were disappointed at full time tonight."

Kirkby-born Lambert has never had the opportunity to play a senior game at Anfield, where he has often watched the Reds in action as a supporter.

But the frontman insists he has tried not to place too much emphasis on this weekend's game as he attempted to pull Saints away from the Premier League's relegation zone.

"I've tried my best not to put any attention on it because I've been focusing on these games," he said, "but it has been at the back of my head.

"It has come round now so I'm really looking forward to it.

"I've always said, though, that we want to get something there. I don't want to come away disappointed – I want a good feeling after the game.

"If I was a bit younger, I might have got carried away but I'll try my best to be professional and help my team try to get three points."
