Ronaldo enters the field of play.
Saints search for an equaliser
Undeterred by United taking the advantage at St Mary's, Saints continue to search for a goal in SO14. Adams sees his effort denied by de Gea, before Walker-Peters rebounded effort flies over the crossbar.

HALF TIME: Saints 0-0 Manchester United
An even first-half at St Mary's, with both sides competing to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time this season. United came inches away from taking the lead through Fernandes, but a stoic Saints defence ensures it remains 0-0 at the break.
Saints wall does its job
With both Fernandes and Eriksen positioned over the dead ball, it's the Portugese midfielder that sees his shot deflected by the Saints wall.
United awarded free-kick
A challenge from Aribo on McTominay sees United awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area.
Adams scuffs his shot
A wonderful opportunity for Saints slips away as Aribo's through-ball finds Adams, unable to make proper contact with the ball, de Gea safely recovers for United.
Eriksen strikes wide
Eriksen catches Saints sleeping for a moment, firing from a tight angle towards goal and beating three Saints men. Luckily for the men in white and red, the ball bounces wide of the far post.
Bella-Kotchap fires high

Adams heads over
A wonderful cross into the box from Elyounoussi finds the head of Adams, but the forward's effort bounces off the top netting.
Saints handed a lifeline 🥵
A whole host of opportunities in quick succession for United. Valiant defending from Walker-Peters who takes a boot to the head to deny Fernandes. His clearance only goes as far as Elanga, though, who sees his shot saved by Bazunu before Eriksen and Fernandes also try to find the net with the Saints bodies in the area doing enough to clear behind for a corner.
Saints strong down the right flank
Walker-Peters and Elyounoussi are pairing up nicely down the right wing, with the latter firing in a cross into the area. Faint appeals for a penalty from Adams who felt he was bundled over inside the box, but it's dismissed by Andy Madley.
End-to-end at St Mary's
An even start at St Mary's, with Dalot the latest to create an opportunity in front of goal. Controlling a pass from Eriksen to the edge of the box, the United full-back beats his defender to release a shot across goal but with nobody there to head in for the visitors, the threat passes.

United comfortable in possession
As expected, United look remarkably comfortable in possession at St Mary's, holding much of the ball in the opening stages of play. Good work from the Saints defence though, who manage to intervene in a number of early opportunities for ten Hag's side.
Saints look to press early
An early press from Saints sees Salisu launch a trademark long throw-in into Joe Aribo in the centre of the box. Nothing comes of the move, but positive intent shown from the hosts.

10.37I think it'll be an intense game. Always when you play top teams you need to run, sprint more than the opponent as they have really good individuals. They are strong with the ball. We can't let them get too confident."
