The young Irishman does well as Alvarez tries to poke home a low cross from close range, but City's striker doesn't get enough on it to convert.

Yet again, Saints produce a devastating counter attack as Kyle Walker-Peters lays off James Ward-Prowse, with the captain's effort finding Adams who pokes the ball home only to be ruled offside by the linesman.

The breathless encounter enters the closing stages with Saints still two goals to the good.
Brilliant from Bazunu 👏
Man City break once more as Kevin de Bruyne delivers a low cross from the right towards the far post in search of the onrushing Erling Haaland, but Saints' goalkeeper confidently dives out to pounce on the ball.

Phil Foden crosses the ball from the left wing and the Norwegian stretches out a leg to divert the ball goalwards, but his effort loops over and onto the top of the net.

With both sides turning over possession in midfield it's Nathan Jones's men who break forward with the ball switching from Ché Adams on the left over to Kyle Walker-Peters on the right of the penalty area. After one deflected cross the full-back delivers another low ball, which is so close to being converted by Adams at the far post.

Another positive opening for Saints!
A brilliant breakaway as Ibrahima Diallo releases Kyle Walker-Peters on the right. The full back does well under pressure to deliver a dangerous cross which Adam Armstrong can't quite connect with as the ball is nervously cleared by City.

Goalscorer Moussa Djenepo is taken off after going down with a knock inside the Saints half. Fortunately he's able to walk off, what a performance from the Malian midfielder this evening 👏

City cause confusion in the area
Another forray forward from the visitors as Kalvin Phillips does well to switch the play to Phil Foden, who in turn lays off Kevin de Bruyne. The Belgian's cross causes momentary confusion in the Saints defence but Bazunu rushes out to gather the ball.
Promising play again from Saints 👊
Another confident run from Roméo Lavia who laid off James Ward-Prowse, but the captain's delivery was just ahead of Adam Armstrong. Less than a minute later, Armstrong fires just wide after being found by Kyle Walker-Peters.

Roméo Lavia laid off Sékou Mara who had a space on the edge of the City area, but the opportunity was quickly snuffed out by the visiting defence.

Sékou Mara's opener was quickly followed by a sublime strike from Moussa Djenepo, with City held at bay in an energetic 45 minutes in SO14. A huge second half ahead as Saints go in search of a place in the semi-finals.

With the visitors facing a two goal defecit as half-time approaches they start to bring the game to Saints. Grealish and Gómez link up down the right before the latter finds Gündogan inside the area but the German is ultimately beaten by the Saints defence.
Djenepo looks for a free-kick
Moussa Djenepo looks to have beaten his man in Sergio Gómez down the right but the Malian goes flying while Peter Bankes shakes his head.
Grealish denied by Ćaleta-Car
Jack Grealish beats Lyanco on a charge down the left but he quickly finds his low effort deflected behind by Duje Ćaleta-Car.

Phenomenal. A simply stunning goal from Moussa Djenepo who tries his luck from 30-yards-out, curling the ball over the head of Stefan Ortega Moreno and into the back of the net. Come on you Saints!

That goal has lit something in this Southampton team who once again find themselves on the attack. A quick run from Diallo down the centre before attempting to find Ward-Prowse on the charge, there's a little too much on it for the Saints captain.

Foden fires the ball into the area but a strong header from Lyanco is all it takes to clear the threat.

Lovely from Lyanco who regains possession for Saints before charging down the right, he lays in a low ball to Sékou Mara who makes no mistake this time and sweeps home into the bottom corner with his right footed effort.

Another great opportunity for Saints to take the lead at St Mary's, Sékou Mara has the ball at his feet but facing away from goal. The youngster takes his time to turn but scuffs his shot as it heads behind for a City goal kick.

Moussa Djenepo does well to win a free-kick in the attacking half. James Ward-Prowse plays it short to Djenepo, who then places a tantalising ball into the centre of the box. Adam Armstrong gets a head to it, but can't control it to find the target.

Saints nearly find themselves ahead and through an unlikely hero as Duje Ćaleta-Car's left-footed shot from the edge of the area is pushed behind by Stefan Ortega Moreno.

Silky footwork from Cole Palmer who lays the ball to İlkay Gündoğan on the edge of the area but sees his shot edge wide of the post.

A poor corner to concede for Saints, who allow Phil Foden to whip in a cross from the left, but it's adequately cleared by the Saints defence.
