- Adams twice goes close having come off the bench
FULL TIME: Burnley 2-0 Southampton
Defeat in Lancashire. Saints couldn't recover from a disappointing first half that saw Connor Roberts and Nathan Collins put the hosts in a commanding position. Ché Adams twice went close after the restart, but it was not enough to avoid defeat. Onto Sunday and a trip to Brighton...
Clarets happy to run the clock down
Unsurprisingly, Burnley are happy to see this game out now, taking their time with a series of throw-ins. Saints need to get the ball back, and fast.
Into stoppage time ⏱
We'll have five minutes of additional time. Saints are going to need an incredible ending if they are to draw level.
Burnley substitution: Matthew Lowton replaces Dwight McNeil
A late change for the Clarets.
McNeil blazes over
The Burnley winger looks to put the result beyond doubt, but his strike flies just over.
Southampton substitution: Tino Livramento replaces Kyle Walker-Peters
A final switch of the evening.
Pope keeps out Broja
The Albanian races toward the byline and fires in a venomous cross, but Pope keeps hold of the ball at the near post with Redmond lurking.
A let off...
Burnley could've sealed all three points. Brownhill plays in Rodriguez who looks for Vydra and Collins in the middle, but the ball flies across goal and Saints survive.
Yellow Card for Romain Perraud (Southampton)
Perraud goes into the book for bringing down McNeil.
Burnley substitution: Matej Vydra replaces Wout Weghorst
A change in attack for the hosts.
Still pushing 💪
Saints are enjoying their best spell of the game and Ralph Hasenhüttl will feel his side might still be able to get back into this one.
Yellow Card for James Tarkowski (Burnley)
The Burnley captain is also booked for the altercation.
Yellow Card for Jan Bednarek (Southampton)
Bednarek goes into the book for a coming together with Tarkowski.
Adams thwarted by Taylor
Redmond heads the ball back into the box and Adams looks destined to get one goal back, but Taylor makes a heroic recovery to somehow block the striker's shot.
Pope equal to it
Ward-Prowse gets his effort up and over the wall, but Pope gets across his goal to parry the ball out for a corner.
A free-kick in a dangerous area
Rodriguez fouls Redmond 25 yards out and it gives Ward-Prowse another opportunity to produce a moment of magic.
Instant impact!
Almost a goal with virtually his first touch. A cross picks Adams out in the box, but his volley is straight at Pope and tipped over the bar.
Southampton substitution: Ché Adams replaces Mohamed Elyounoussi
It's two up front for Saints, with Adams joining Broja.
Southampton substitution: Nathan Redmond replaces Stuart Armstrong
The first of two substitutions for the visitors.
Burnley substitution: Aaron Lennon replaces Maxwel Cornet
A change for the hosts.
VAR Decision: Goal awarded for Burnley [Jack Cork] was cancelled
No goal! A reprieve for Saints. Cork is found to be in an offside position. It stays at 2-0...
Cork converts
Tarkowski heads the ball across goal where Rodriguez and Cork are both waiting. Forster gets something on it, but the former Saints midfielder bundles it home. There is a VAR check once again, however.
GOAL
Jack Cork (62’) | 3 – 0

Roberts receives treatment
The Burnley defender comes into contact with Romeu at a corner, with the Saints midfielder accidentally catching the full-back in the throat. Play now resumes...
Pope tested
Perraud's cross from the left takes a deflection off of Roberts and needs Pope to tip the ball over the bar for a corner.
A more end-to-end game
We're still in the early stages of this second half, but it's been end-to-end so far. Cornet has a shot blocked at one end, before Walker-Peters suffers the same fate at the other end moments later.
Tarkowski heads over
Almost a third for Burnley at the start of the half. Brownhill's corner finds his skipper in the middle, but Tarkowski's header is over the bar by a couple of feet.
Back under way...
Play resumes at Turf Moor. We're going to need a big second 45 minutes to get back into this one.
HALF TIME: Burnley 2-0 Southampton
A difficult half comes to an end. After an initially bright start from Saints, the hosts have dominated since Connor Roberts broke the deadlock after 12 minutes. Fraser Forster has made a string of fine saves, only for Nathan Collins to head home from a corner just before the break. An uphill task awaits in the second half...
Goal given
VAR had a long look at the goal to see if Jack Cork, who was in an offside position, touched the ball on its way in, but the goal is given.
Collins makes it two
Cornet's corner is headed home by Collins, who rises above Ward-Prowse, to leave Forster no chance. However, there is a VAR check...
GOAL
Nathan Collins (43’) | 2 – 0

A break in play
The game is halted momentarily to allow players from both sides who are currently observing Ramadan to take on some refreshment. It's also a chance for Ralph Hasenhüttl to speak to his players.
Yellow Card for Jack Cork (Burnley)
The first card of the night goes to the former Saints midfielder, who brings down Stuart Armstrong as he looks to escape over the halfway line.
Forster brilliance denies McNeil!
The Southampton keeper is once again the hero. McNeil's low drive from the edge of the box looks destined for the bottom corner, but Forster is down to his left to get a strong hand to it at the expense of a corner.
Milestone 🆙
The skipper is making his 300th Premier League appearance this evening, the seventh youngest player to reach the milestone in Premier League history.
How aren't we level?!
Exactly the same as earlier in the half, a Ward-Prowse corner is perfect for Romeu, but once again the Spaniard heads wide.
Broja wins a corner
Elyounoussi finds Broja in the box, but the striker's shot is deflected wide for a corner. A pass to Perraud on the overlap may have been the better option...
A glimpse of goal
It's been a while since Saints were at this end of the pitch, but Walker-Peters looks for Elyounoussi in the middle, with the Norwegian unable to apply a finishing touch on thee stretch in the middle.
Off the bar!
Burnley should be two goals to the good here. Forster - for a third time tonight - produces a stunning save low down to his right before Weghorst somehow heads the ball onto the bar from inside the six yard box!
Looking for a second...
The home crowd are enjoying what they're watching, as the Clarets continue to flood forward. The latest attack ends with Weghorst failing to find Rodriguez with a through ball, allowing Forster to mop up.
Clarets apply the pressure
Saints can't clear their lines at the moment and are indebted to Forster. Weghorst nods the ball down to his strike partner, but Rodriguez's shot from 6 yards is brilliantly saved by Forster.
Weghorst denied
The hosts are full of confidence now. McNeil plays in Weghorst on the right-hand side of the box, but after manoeuvring past Lyanco, the striker's angle is narrowed by Forster who spreads himself to save the shot.
A lead against the run of play
The hosts lead out of nowhere. Connor Roberts picks up the ball 20 yards from goal, moves the ball onto his weaker left foot and curls a strike past Forster and into the back of the net. No chance for the Saints stopper.
GOAL
Connor Roberts (11’) | 1 – 0

Burnley hang on
Saints win possession high up the pitch and work space for Armstrong to shoot, but his shot is blocked before Elyounoussi scuffs the rebound inside the box. A promising start...
Ori! 😱
Ward-Prowse's corner is straight onto the head of Romeu, but his header flashes inches wide. The Spaniard jogs away with his head in his hands!
Walker-Peters goes close
A cross-field ball finds Walker-Peters in acres of space, allowing the full-back to drift inside onto his left foot, but his eventual shot is deflected over for a corner.
Early possession for the hosts
Given the importance of tonight's match for Burnley, it's no surprise to see the hosts enjoying the best of the early possession.
Forster tidies up
An early ball over the top tempts Rodriguez, but the Saints keeper races out of his box to clear the danger.
